WHAT IS A RESTORATION?
Instead of troubleshooting the radio to identify problem parts
or items (then replacing), we replace ALL the capacitors, resistors as
required [no greater than 10% variance], under chassis
wiring as required for safety. All tubes are tested - marginal ones replaced. Dial cord
tuning string repaired or tightened. High velocity air clean to remove
all surface dust. Alignment checked. Longevity PAK is installed
where possible. This is a voltage drop device to bring AC input voltage
closer to the 110 volts AC that older radios expected. An under
chassis fuse is installed for protection. Speaker replaced where necessary.
New dial lights installed. Controls are
treated with DEOXIT, tuning dials are checked and the radio is aligned
to factory specifications, and subjected to a 3 hour burn in Test.

Grundig 3060a repair tech shout out

Folks,
I just got my beloved 3060a back from John O'brien in
Potomac, Maryland. He has a web site as the radio
repair guy. Google radio repair guy and you will find
it.
John really knows his stuff. The Grundig 3060a, family
heirloom, was dead and it had stumped another tech in
Annapolis.
John specialized in tube radios and works out of his
house but has a complete lab.
It is amazing to hear this 1956 radio playing glorious
music again. The tuner sensitivity is incredible and
sound from the big 14 inch speaker is fantastic.
I highly recommend John if you live near the
Washington DC area. He only works on tube gear and
will work on hi fi separates as well as radios.

John:
Happy to report that after nearly 4.5 years the
RCA 813K
is running strong. No issues and the unit continues to
mystify folks on how a radio built in 1938 can still
operate in 2012 -- 74 years later! Continued testimony
to the great work you are performing in restoring
American history. Only one year away from its
Dodranscentennial anniversary!!!
Thanks again.

Also, I absolutely LOVE the RCA 224, I can't turn it
off.
The sound is good, I have a good
antenna on it, a long-wire running up to the top roof
and last night I discovered that I had to learn to tune
it by minute-increments as on bands A & C (broadcast and
Shortwave 6 - 18 mhz) the radio was absolutely flooded
with signals , it was amazing, it totally out-classed my
Sangean AT-818.
You did a great job bringing this
radio back to life and I do appreciate it.
Thanks
John!
