ARVIN MODEL 441T
Most of the radios we repair
(>90%), malfunction because of electrolytic capacitors or bad tubes.
The
radio on the right is the underside of an Arvin model 441T (or Hopalong
Cassidy Radio). This radio (4 tube) has a metal case with likenesses of
Hopalong Cassidy imprinted on the front.
It is worth about $700.00
(retail) if it is in working condition.
The owner said that it did not
work and asked me to replace the Electrolytics and bring it back to a
working state.
I asked the owner to ship to me using a doubled box configuration due
to the value of the radio. It arrived with no perceptible damage. As
usual, I did not plug it in until I could assess the state of the
Electrolytics.
It was discovered that this radio had a "floating" ground which was
necessitated by the metal cabinet.
