This includes amateur receivers as well as consumer radios with short
wave bands.
RESTORATION
Restoration of radios intended for SW or consumer radios with
additional SW bands will include testing of each band and alignment of the
radio to manufactures specification. However we cannot guarantee the
performance of the radio on SW bands because of the following reasons:
1. Signal Variance
SW reception is influenced by many propagation factors such as
time-of-day, local weather, sunspot activity, etc. Even with the best
receiver, reception can be spotty and in some frequency ranges or
bands SW reception is
greatly diminished for months at a time.
2. Antenna
All SW radios for maximum reception advise an external antenna.
Descriptions usually specify 100 foot long wire antennas 20 feet off the
ground. Of course nobody does that [very few]. But if you expect to reliably
always pick up Radio Moscow then you need to do something like this.
3. Interference
The modern home or apartment is a rich source of RF signals that can
interfere with radio reception. Most common is the hash type signals put out
by light dimmers and computers. This can be heard as distinct noise patterns
on your radio. Even more insidious is RF interference that does not produce
an audible noise that you can hear, but is picked up by the radio and
suppresses signal reception.
